about me

my background

i have worked and studied across a diverse (but, i believe, related) range of disciplines – medicine, contemporary spirituality, psychotherapy, and fine art.

my professional work with people from a wide variety of social and educational backgrounds has strengthened my belief in the unique worth of each human being, and my interest in the ways in which individuals are excluded by different parts of our society.

there is a rich tradition of contemporary sociopolitical art, and my initial intention was to use the MA course as a vehicle for exploring this further, developing my own practice with the aim of highlighting the many inequalities present in the UK today.

however, my research in the arts and healthcare arena revived my awareness of the inability of arts and healthcare professions to communicate in a meaningful way at an academic level because of failure to understand different research methodologies.

i think that i can use my experience of both professions (and hopefully the credibility that this gives me) to explore ways in which art can be used to bridge the communication gulf between art and medicine.
